The basis of this project required a speculation into the role of a library in future generations.
The proposal of a film library on the site of Chye Seng Huat Hardware Cafe stemmed from the observation of collaboration between different disciplines of the businesses within the Jalan Besar District. Additionally, film's inherent characteristic of enabling the preservation of society's past, present and future serves as a valuable trait in an increasingly digital society in preserving and sharing culture. Thus, conceptualising the idea of shared experiences where collaborators of the past, present and future can exchange valuable ideas and conversations.
Intersecting spaces were crafted to enable these shared experiences to occur. Within the interior, spaces are designed to intersect through wrapping volumes that enable visual connection.
