Bachelor (Hons) Interior Design, LASALLE College of the Arts | 2018

This project is part of a school entry into the Nippon Paint Asian Young Designer Award (AYDA) Competition. In recent times, living in a “tiny & compact home” is considered to be healthier for mental and emotional health due to the humbler way of living and need for lesser unnecessary material possessions. With this, the basis of the proposed design for future modular homes demonstrates efficiency and flexibility, while incorporating elements of sustainability, through the use of sustainable materials or ensuring sustainability during the construction process.

With a modular housing system, spaces are adaptable according to different living scenarios. The project design explores 2 different types of scenarios- a 1 Bedroom Apartment for SOHO living, and a  2 Bedroom Apartment for a family of three. The proposed design explores the potential of elements like walls, floors and ceilings to be movable within a grid system. The dual-purpose of these architectural elements shape the flexibility of the interior space to adapt to different user needs.
